T is for Time

It's hard to believe we are in the midst of the holiday season, with All Hallows Eve behind us, Thanksgiving Day this week, and Christmas about a month away.  Time can certainly appear to go faster as we get older.  I found several theories about the latter phenomenon in an article in the Scientific American Blog, which I found very interesting.

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Christmas
The first two have to do with how we gauge time by memorable events and how this is relative to our ages.  For example, for a five year old, a year is 20% of his or her life, while for a 50 year old a year is only 2% of his or her life.  Therefore, waiting for Christmas to come along, which can be a memorable experience, seems like a lifetime for a young child vs to an adult.  (Yes, the older we get, the smaller the percentage.  Sigh!)
Two other interesting theories have to do with a child vs an adult's perspectives.  While a child may be anxiously counting down the days until Christmas, an adult may be focused on work, schedules, finances, family dynamics, house chores, planning trips, and shopping for Christmas.  Therefore, the passage of time is slow for a child due to anticipation, while an adult may loose track of time due to the stressful plethora of responsibilities he or she may have.

Therefore, time does not literally go faster as we get older.  However, we can slow it down by relaxing to take time to spend quality time with family and friends, enjoy nature, enjoy the arts, read, and praise the Lord for our blessings.  I believe if we all did this, are world would be much more peaceful.

I want to hank everyone for stopping by, especially to my followers and everyone taking the time to leave a comment.  Rather you are celebrating Thanksgiving Day or not, hope you have a blessed week.  See you later - Hasta la vista!

Time is an interesting topic, especially with children and adults, and the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

When traveling with children..."Are we there yet?" No, we just left the driveway. HaHa.

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a child myself during the holidays...the anticipation of taking down my Fall decorations, and putting up Christmas. My friend gave me a Rod Stewart Christmas CD with the old songs....look forward to that, and of course all the traditional carols and songs.

Blessings to you and your loved ones.

Oh my gosh... what you wrote is soooo true! I have these memories growing up AND I definitely feel like time whizzes by trying to be done before Christmas! Love your wonderful parcels and those bells are stunning... Thanks for sharing with 'Let's December Daily'! Totally wonderful vintage magazine - definitely nailed the theme at 'Our Beautiful World too'. And your journal entry show a talented hand. What a great post!

Very interesting indeed, Arnoldo, and I like your tips for making time seem not so fast. Slow down and enjoy the moments, yes, good advice.
I am always impressed by how you present your artwork, for example showing your pastel painting with the pastels, and the Christmas bells with the baubles. Your artwork is superb and the photo of the art in its setting gives a second artwork.
I'd love that magazine!!! Gorgeous bells and fab drawing too! Such a cool post!

I remember thinking when I was younger that I was just a quarter of the way through my life, or a third, or a half. Now that I am ninety I'm not sure what to think!!! I treasure the moments my memory of time bring to me....

That is a great tip to make it appear as if time is moving slow. Off late i had begun to feel time is running. :)
Wonderful post for the week.
If you're 50, the last year is only 2% of your life, but when you turn 10, it's 10%. So it does appear that time accelerates

I was just writing on another post about how time seems to fly now that I'm older. I make the most of the time that I have, and make decisions about my lifestyle so that I can maximize my enjoyment. - Margy

That was an interesting article about 'The passage of time' Arnoldo, thought provoking indeed!
I find time passing too quickly at present,
Husband's birthday on Saturday and I still
can't find out what he would like for his present..
.What does one buy for a man who has everything ?
I guess some gift vouchers for his favourite pastime... Golf..

There sorted!

Inspiration sought and found at Arnoldo's!

Now, before more time passes,I'm off to his favourite,
on-line Golf Shop to secure his gift.

I could do with one of your delightful hand crafted gift tags,
maybe I shall make one myself whilst I have the time !
Blessings and as always,
Best wishes,
Di.

I have been remiss in visiting. I missed your lovely artwork. Thank you for sharing the info from the article. It makes sense. I am going to stop and smell the roses. After I clean the house, cook the turkey, clean up the kitchen......... Ha! I have already lost sight of what is important. ;-)
Have a lovely Thanksgiving with your family.

This blue eyed square chinned work of art seems to be timeless in his serenity. I looked at the article but didn't have time to read it this morning . My favorite thing on this page are the brown packages with the beautiful bells. Gold and brown paper, who knew? Thank you so much for taking time to post your very creative art with us this week at Word Art Wednesday in our 211th AG challenge! Blessings, Carole
I'm loving your journal page and especially your Christmas bells! Very well done. Hope you're having a lovely week. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thank you so much for sharing those theories Arnoldo, they make so much sense as I know I'm always bemoaning the fact that time just seems to fly by - I still can't believe it's almost the end of 2015! It's good to know it's just an illustion after all! I absolutely love those bell tags - those Christmas packages look so beautiful it would almost be a shame to open them!!
Great idea for wrapping and love the portrait! :)

Truly a fascinating read on age and time. Now it all makes sense to me. LOL. When I saw the photo of the wrapped packages, I thought ohhh wow Arnoldo has the gift of wrapping and then to fin you created the bells makes it all the more special. I love this pastel. Rugged but gentle face. Wishing you and your beautiful family a blessed weekend.

Lovely work on show here this time, Arnoldo. Also some interesting thoughts about time passing - or how we perceive it. It's true that adults don't seem to have the "time" to relax and anticipate with pleasure. Our anticipation tends to be of the anxious kind; anxiety does make it feel as if time is whizzing by. Maybe we need to try and be more like little children - accepting, relaxed, a little more playful and looking for the positive things, in order to anticipate with pleasure and excitement again!
Have a great weekend.

The bells are gorgeous, Arnoldo. Several years ago I figured out the percentage part of time passing. I'm glad that the science community is backing up my theory.
Great series of photos! I've read a similar article about the passage of time. I *sigh* am of an age where November and December seem a blink of an eye. So glad to have found you again through Our Beautiful World!

Hello Arnoldo, I really love the first project at the top of your post this week. It seems packages are rushed through and the wrapping is somehow not as important as it used to be. The bells and holly are so beautiful. Also thank you for the information on why it seems that we never have enough time! I agree some time spent just looking out the windows at the squirrels and birds seems to calm me down and puts life more into perspective. Thank you for your comment on my blog. It is interesting this week that several of us did portraits! Have a good week.

I appreciate your information about why time seems to fly the older we get. It was very interesting,

I am glad to see that you are still creating with a variety of media.

What a great male face! Loved hearing about the theories too! Hope you had a blessed thanksgiving.
The bell tags are so cute and great portrait! I enjoyed reading the theory -- makes a lot of sense, and of course, taking time to slow down and appreciate at any age is a great tip!
