Holy Week Observances

Hello!  ¡Hola!  As I mentioned last week, Holy Week is very busy for me.  It began with Palm Sunday, during which we commemorated Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  It was beautiful.  In addition, my daughter and my grandsons have been in town, so I made it a point to spend time with them.  Therefore, I didn't have much time to work on artwork, but wanted to share its significance.

This is a picture of what my drafting table in my home studio/office has looked like most of the week.  (My Church Office work desk looks much the same, with my Bibles and Bible Commentaries.)  I've been working on Church bulletins and sermons, but did squeeze in a little time to have my 2 year old color the wooden fish and heart that you see in the upper right hand corner of my drafting table.  I am submitting this picture to What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 878/98.

St. James Episcopal Church, Del Rio, Texas

Maundy Thursday is part of the Triduum, or three holy days before Easter.  The name comes from the Latin mandatum novum, “new commandment,” from John 13:34, "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.  Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another."  The liturgy includes the washing of feet and the commemoration of the institution of the eucharist by Jesus, “on the night he was betrayed.”  I took this photograph of the altar, after we stripped it at the end of the service, in preparation for Good Friday, during which we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus.  I am submitting this picture to Word Art Wednesday Weeks #746/747.

This is a the only piece of artwork I did this week, which was more meditational.  It's a quick and simple icon of Mary Magdalene and Jesus, her Teacher, Savior, and King.  It depicts her encounter with Jesus, after his resurrection from the dead, on the third day.  I did it on my iPad, with an iPencil, using my Procreate app.  (I like the way my Jesus came out, but not crazy about poor Mary Magdalene.)  I am submitting this piece to Friday Face Off 4/2/2026.

I wish you a Happy Easter Sunday!  ¡Les deseo un feliz Domingo de Resurrección!  Shalom!

Thanks for explaining where the word "maundy" came from as it "mandate" or commandment of course I had to look into it further. Always thought of mourning when I "heard" the word. Your Jesus defo came out well can't believe this was on an ipad, ever amazed by technology. Good Friday now and I heard a "short" on FB the other day explaining the greek word Tetelestai (It is finished - John 19:30) always amazed how the translations we read don't encompass the entirety of the meaning of the original words. Happy Easter BJ#6

Hi Arnoldo, yes you did leave a comment on this week's post. I went to check as sometimes I just get the email notification and nothing shows on my blog. I did however notice your second comment was about this week's post but actually on LAST week's post which you hadn't commented on before. Hope that clears things up. Hugs Bj#6

Beautiful post, Arnoldo. Happy Easter and God bless you.
Your creations are wonderful, Arnoldo. I think Mary looks great. It's a great design and really captures what it may have been like when she realized He was truly alive.....just like He had promised. Beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us at Word Art Wednesday. I praise God for you and hope that you're having a blessed Easter weekend.
