A Holiday Transition

The Thanksgiving holiday in the Romero household was quiet, but very memorable indeed.  My Texas A&M Aggie girl came home from college, so having the four of us together is a celebration and a true blessing in itself.  God is good!

Lisa and the girls did all the cooking, which was all from scratch and very delicious, while I took care of the tablescape.  I used my mother's vintage Mikasa dishes, because I felt the faded greens looked perfect with the rest of my color scheme.  Of course, we also had lots of talking, laughing, and eating, who could ask for more!  Well, it would have been nice if the Aggies had won their game against Missouri yesterday afternoon.  Well, everything can't be perfect, right?

Today, it is the first day of Advent, a time to prepare spiritually to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ.  As a way to countdown the 24 days to Christmas, many Christians use advent calendars, which have progressed from simple tallies, to candles, to paper calendars with little windows, and more.  This year, I decided to put together one of my own using a vintage Coca-Cola case, since it has exactly 24 cubbyholes.  I filled each cubbyhole with vintage ceramic and wooden figurines, as well as other miniatures that I've collected throughout the years.  Then, I designed a set of 24 mini-tags, using various Christmas punches, prints, tapes, buttons, glitter, and various other materials.  There are 7 different designs, which I alternated, numbered, and pinned one to each of the cubbyholes.  It was fun to work on and looks quite charming.

Hi Arnoldo...love your "Advent Calendar" - a perfect way to show off the beautiful things we collect and then struggle to show off to their best. It must be a wonderful conversation piece too, relating where each piece has come from to this place in your life. Thank you for adding this lovely creation to our Opus Gluei pages.

All beautiful family photographs - a blessing indeed. Your idea for the coco-cola box advent calendar is inspired and looks good. It would be nice nearer Christmas to see one photograph devoted to it so that we can appreciate it even more.
Thank you for your much appreciated thoughts in your comment - and out two blessings are that Dev is almost recovered and our daughter came back safely at the weekend from New York.

Unfortunately, we will have to stay separate from other family this year to avoid germs since Lorne is going through chemo. But we have some good plans and will reunite with everyone when it's all over with. Thanks for your kind remarks on my post.
