Art Smorgasbord - No Solid Theme

Greetings!  I like having a thematic thread that connects all my pieces, but was not able to achieve a solid one this week.  However, I believe they are at least somewhat meaningful pieces and they are Earth friendly.

Celebration of Love
© Arnoldo L. Romero 2013
Purple Heart
© Arnoldo L. Romero 2013
These first two pieces were inspired by Christ, love and a painting technique I learned from Kristina Werner.  I used the Rays & Retro Circles folders by Tim Holtz to emboss my cardstock backgrounds.  For my "Celebration of Love" postcard, I drew the stylized Christ King on an old Church bulletin using a black micron pen, a red Faber-Castell marker, and diamond Stickles.  I used a set of Magnetic Poetry word stamps to print my text tiles on the back of a Starbucks cup warmer.  I mounted my design on a piece of 6x4" black cardsctock and added a strip of Smash washi tape to the border.  I am submitting this piece to Sunday Postcard Art - Tape it!Collage Obsession: Let's Make Mail Art!, and Orange You Glad It's Friday.  For the card, I used a leather purple Heart, which I embellished with a scrap of red Sizzix paper, an EK Success Fastenater, an old button, and strands of fiber.  I am submitting this piece to Simon Says Stamp and Show - Challenge Color, Artists in Blogland, and Mandarin Orange Monday #39.

Proverbs 12:10
© Arnoldo L. Romero 2013
Philemon 1:4
© Arnoldo L. Romero 2013
These next two pieces were inspired by my girls, my 3 dogs, and two different Bible Verses.  I took the photograph during Easter, when my youngest daughter was having a "conversation" with the dogs.  I thought it was precious the way they were all three sitting up listening to her.  It reminded me of what is taught in  Proverbs 12:10, "The righteous care for the needs of their animals."  I am submitting this piece to Artist's Play Room #54 - Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes52 Photos Project Gallery 1 {Conversation}Word Art Wednesday, Inspiration Avenue - Talk to the Animals, and Inspire Me Monday #69.  For my art journal page, I quoted Philemon 1:4, "I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers," because my girls and dogs are part of my daily prayers.  I did the hand lettering and cartoon scene using a micron pen, Faber-Castell markers, and Prismacolor pencils.  I am submitting it to What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 203Paint Party Friday - Week 7 Year 3, and Sunday Sketches.

Sail Away
© Arnoldo L. Romero 2013
Last, but not least, I worked on this masculine card inspired by my blogging friend Adri Munhoz's sketch at Blog Dos Desafios #13.  (By the way, I don't know Portuguese, but between my knowledge of Spanish and occasionally Google translator I figure it out.  LOL!)  I used a McGill stamp punch and a paper cutter, as well as tan paper, a K&Company fish print, and a Clearsnap blue ink pad, to create the background.  I used a Tim Holtz Picture Wheel die, a K&Company print, a Martha Stewart compass stamp, a brad, and a K&Company seahorse to create my focal point.  I really like the way the my background pattern shows through the little windows!  I hand cut and lettered my banner.  As a finishing touch, I added a real seashell and a reef knot I made with some satin cording.  I am also submitting this card to Take a Word Challenge - SeaSimon Says Stamp Challenge: Anything Goes, Illustration Friday, and Paper Saturdays.

I hope you found my post meaningful and appreciated my Earth friendly touches.  You are cordially invited to follow my blog and/or leave a comment.  The latter is truly motivational to me.  I always make it a point to leave a comment on the blogs of those that leave a comment for me… as well as comments to bloggers that don't reciprocate.  Blessings!

I always love looking at your art and have missed it while my computer has been playing up. It's still not fixed but is working, just. I love your purple heart card with all the swirls, just fab and lovely to see your daughter happily talking to the dog. We have a lot of pets too and I'm sure they understand everything we say to them :)
Have a great week.

Such great pieces Arnoldo! That is a great shot of your daughter with the dogs, it is so funny how they are all watching her like she is the teacher and them the students.. Your depiction in the book is darling, and perfect sentiment for it. Your fun lettering is a great addition. Your sail away card jumped out at me as it reminded me of my late hubby and his love of all things nautical. The addition of the rope knot, sea horse and compass is great. What a fun way to use that die! Have a great weekend!! Looking forward to next week's journey through your art!
Oh those glorious rays of sun...perfectly colored and the then the heart on Christ...I LOVE this!!! It caught my eye and it was hard to look else where. I loved the purple heart too...reminds me of those lost at war, sadly. The dangly bits are fun and colorful and provide interest...it makes the whole card pop! Love the way you recycle or should I say upcycle! Thank you for sharing your true colors with us this week here at Simon Says Stamp & Show!

Hi Arnoldo: Your art is so incredibly diverse. The art you dedicate to your girls is very beautiful. I love the back to back sharing...geez...isn't this just what we girls do! The earth day DOES show throughout. I really love the first piece and can truly see the Christ Principle at work in it and the mixed media wonder you have incorporated. It is truly and authentically wonderful how you combine the best art companies stash etc. with the oldest books on earth! {heart} samara navi
