Re-Member

Hello!  ¡Hola!  With it being Hallow's Eve, it seems to me like we'll be celebrating New Year's Eve before we know it.  I remember as a child that holidays just seemed so far apart from each other.  However, I read a study that said that age-related changes in our brains, make time feel like it's slipping away faster as we get older - Ugh!

Happy Pumpkin Painter
What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 856/76

Speaking of Halloween, here's a picture of my oldest grandson, decorating some pumpkins for his family's front porch.  He's only 2 years old, so he's too young to carve Jack-o-lanterns, but he LOVES to paint.  I wonder who he got that from - LOL!

Just Add Ink #772... Colour & Inspiration!

For my next project, I have a Halloween assemblage I put together for my home art studio/study.  I used the Sizzix Tim Holtz Vault Coffin Box Thinlits set; the Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations Wood Planks embossing folder; Various colors of cardstock and tissue paper; glass cat eyes; a miniature glass bauble; natural twigs; natural moss; a small mason jar top; and adhesives.  It was fun putting this together!

Rain's Thursday Art Dinner Date - Bewitched
My third piece, is a portrait I made of a woman in my handmade art journal.  That's a fun place to experiment with new techniques.  Using a palette knife, I began by covering a page with red acrylic paint.  I also used the palette knife to roughly sketch out the portrait.  When it dried, I used Faber-Castell Gelatos complete my sketch.  I used my fingers as blending tools as needed.  It's not perfect, but it's the journey that matters in the end.

I also have a card I made for my cousin's wife, who's been very ill.  I used a Lzbrdy Bees die cut set; white, black and yellow cardstock; acrylic markers to add details to the bees; and an Arteza calligraphy marker to draw the background curvy line and sentiment.  I like the clean feel of this card.
Altar del Día de los Muertos at St. James Episcopal Church, del Río, Texas
Altered Book Lover - T Stands for Wine
Gillena's Lunch Break 10/31/25
Last, but not least, I set up an "Altar del Día de los Muertos" at my church's sanctuary.  It includes a Christ King Cross, 2 Icons I wrote, pictures of parishioners deceased loved ones, Holy Water, Holy Oils, Incense, Wine, papel picado, and ceramic sugar skulls.  This altar of remembrance comes from a Mexican tradition, which is now celebrated in many Episcopal Churches, on All Souls Day (November 2nd).  Hence, it commemorates the faithful departed, and most importantly, serves as a reminder of our hope of resurrection and eternal life through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.  Here's a summary of my sermon for this coming Sunday (and the Lectionary Readings):

On All Souls Day, we remember those we love, who are no longer with us.  We also "re-member" ourselves.  If you are Baptized, you are joined to Jesus’ resurrection and new life.  Hence, we also join the saints and loved ones who have passed before us; those who's lives taught us how to model our lives after Jesus life and teachings of love, mercy, forgiveness, humility, and servitude.  Therefore, every step we take with God's help to the "re-membering" of ourselves by vowing to fulfill our Baptismal Covenant, is a passage from death to life.

Thanks for visiting!  ¡Gracias por su visita!  I'd love to hear from you, so please leave a comment.  I'll be sure to reciprocate.  Shalom!

Is that an upcoming artist your have in the family? That is the best photo and he is concentrating on mixing that paint. And lovely red hair he has. I also like his booted foot on the pumpkin. A wonderful display with the cat's eyes. I do love this portrait. This is actually a very popular technique and you have done well with it. I love how you treated the eyes. The card is a happy one. Very nice. I am thrilled with the Altar del Día de los Muertos and the fact that you can set it up at your church. Thank you for sharing all of this with FFO. I would love for you to join in on FFO self portrait challenge. Even if you have an older piece put away. Have a very nice weekend.

Your grandson is certainly in the zone. So cute. Your art is so vibrant. The altar is just beautiful remembering the past, being present in the time and season of the year, and connecting to a spiritual future of love and togetherness.
