We're All Invited To The Wedding Feast!

Hello!  ¡Hola!  Fall is definitely in the air, with cooler mornings, but my schedule is still overflowing.  Besides special liturgies at my 2 churches, I have 2 diocesan-related trips coming up in the next 2 weeks.  With a little organization, and the strength I find in the Lord, I know I'll make it through.
For my first project, I have an ATC inspired by Shopping Our Stash SOS 584 - Black Cats, ATC Around the World - Autumn Flowers, and Tag-Along (And ATC's) - All Things Autumn.  (BTW, thanks TA&ATC's for selecting my last ATC as a DT Favourite!)  For my design, I used the Infünly Animals die set, the KSCraft ATC dies set, and an old Martha Stewart 3-in-1 Hydrangea punch from my stash.  I used Sakura Gellyroll Moonlight pens for the details and a Bomichi Quote Sticker for the sentiment.
Next, I have an Autumn art journal page I did, featuring a quote by Henry David Thoreau, the 1800's American naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher.  The quote is about valuing the freedom, quiet, and independence of being alone—even on a hard, lumpy pumpkin—far more than the false comfort of a crowded velvet cushion shared with society's expectations.  I cut and pieced the pumpkin using different prints of Autumn papers.  I am submitting this page to Just Add Ink #796 - Just Add Paper Piecing, Ellibelle's Garden Party No. 20, and The Paper Funday Challenges October 2026 Challenge #92 - Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice.  (BTW) Thanks TPFC for the September Win!
Last week, Julia Dunnit posted, "Oh Deskers, we gather on Wednesday905, with great sadness and shock, to remember Sarah, and celebrate that section of her life that she shared with us."  Julia was the founder of the WOYWW community, but handed the management over to Sarah Brennan 125 weeks before.  I never met Sarah in person, but got to know her through her beautiful artwork, her friendly posts, and her gracious comments on my blog.  When visiting Jan's blog, I found the photo above, so I reached out to her to ask permission to use it as a reference for my pencil portrait. - Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Sarah. - I am submitting this to Word Art Wednesday #906, Art For Fun Friday 4055, and Friday Face Off 10/16/2026.
The photos above are my this, that, and the other for last week... although they were all taken last Wednesday!  I took the 1st 👷photo at a red light, when driving to work.  I got the Autumn thermal coffee mug from a friend years ago.  The 2nd 🦋photo is of the first and only Monarch Butterfly I've seen this season in my Church's Prayer Garden.  We used to see them in droves migrating through Del Rio, Texas, on their way down to Mexico, every October.  Sadly, I have only seen handfuls of them in the past few years, as they are currently classified globally as vulnerable.  The 3rd ⛪photo features shots from the Blessing of the Animals, which I celebrated with our parochial students and families, as part of the Feast of St. Francis.  I got to bless dogs, cats, turtles, and even farm animals' photos that our students brought.

In closing, I want to leave you with a summary of my sermon, based on the readings for the 20th Sunday after Pentecost:

In the Parable of the Wedding Feast, Jesus uses a royal wedding banquet to explain God's inclusive invitation to salvation and our need for faithful readiness.  This is a parable of judgment, but not the judgment the world practices.  People in the world have a tendency to judge those whom they deem unworthy for whatever reason, so they exclude them.  In the parable, the King invites a group of people to the royal wedding, but they reject his invitation; so the King invites a 2nd group of people, which included the good and the bad.  Those in the 2nd group all attend, so the wedding hall is filled with guests.  Hence, the issue wasn't that the King was excluding anyone, but that the 1st group chose not to attend and simply go about their worldly business.  Furthermore, we must do our best to live a Christ-centered life, striving to be filled with steadfast joy, relational unity, and supernatural peace, as Paul told the Philippians.  Otherwise, we may be expelled, like the person that showed up to the banquet without a wedding garment.  God is love, and we're all invited to his Son's wedding banquet, so let's faithfully plan to attend.

Thanks for visiting!  ¡Gracias por visitarme!  Please leave a comment, and I'll be glad to reciprocate, so that we can get to know each other.

Shalom,
Arnoldo+

  4. I always like seeing your weekly art because you manage to hit so many challenges with such great pieces. Your face drawing of your lost blogging friend came out super and is a great tribute to her. Your kitty and pumpkin are wonderful also. It's too sad about the monarchs too. I only saw a couple this year myself. I hope you have a super T day and not too busy a week ahead. hugs-Erika

  5. Who doesn´t love black cats, Arnoldo! Great portrait again, if the reason is a sad one..So young, oh. But no matter when, it is always too earl. Have a great T-Day anyways.

  6. I'm sorry to hear about Sarah's passing. I used to be a 'Desker' back in the day when Julia was at the helm. Your drawing of Sarah is very good.
I love your curious kitty and your artistic pumpkin. (and the quote).
Great that you do an animal blessing on St Francis day. Our vicar in the UK used to do that too. I have never attended as we had no pets but my late husband was the full-time verger/caretaker at the church so he was always at hand to help.
I admit that I never understood that parabel completely. The person without wedding garments was excluded. Surely outward things like clothes should not count here. What's in your heart is what counts. But hey, who am I.
Yes it's sad to hear about the decline of the Monarchs. Loss of habitat you think?
Wishing you strength for the week ahead,
    Lisca

    1. Hi, Lisca! You are correct, it's what's in your heart that counts. However, the person in the parable without wedding garments represents someone that hasn't repented of their sins, nor strived to live a Jesus centered life. Accepting Jesus as our Savior, is not a free ticket to live sinful lives. We must always do our best to transform our lives to serve the Lord through our thoughts, words and actions. That's how we demonstrate what's in our hearts to God and all our neighbors. As to your question, it is my understanding that the Monarchs' population decrease is due to a combination of habitat loss, widespread pesticide and herbicide use, and climate change. I also read that there's an issue with parasites. It's a sad situation, and there's not enough being done to save them.

  8. I'm a cat person, so I loved the kitty. What a great ATC.

Sarah dying took a lot of us by surprise. I was her PIF recipient one WOYWW anniversary. She will be missed. Your drawing of her is stupendous. It was also a great entry for FFO and AFFF.

I also haven't seen any monarchs this year. It's truly sad they are declining so quickly.

What a wonderful collage of your tribute to St. Francis. I had to laugh at all the animals you had/got to bless. Bless you!

And finally, thank you for sharing your autumn thermal coffee mug with us for T this week. We appreciate it.

  9. Very cute black cat ATC. May the memory of your friend, Sarah, be a blessing. The photo of the blessing of the animals brought back a happy memory. My girlies went to parochial school. Unfortunately, our cat, Ink hated the carrier and car rides. My youngest always brought a stuffed black cat to represent Ink for the blessing. Happy T Day

  16. What a beautiful drawing of Sarah and such a wonderful tribute to her. I was sad to hear that the Monarch butterflies are in decline - it has always been a desire of mine to see them in their thousands in real life rather than just on wildlife TV programme. I hope with the right human intervention they can be saved and their numbers built back up.
    Happy WOYWW,

  21. Your memorial portrait of Sarah Brennan is a gorgeous act of remembrance; she clearly touched so many lives in the blogging world.
That paper-pieced pumpkin for the Thoreau quote is pure autumn perfection, and your reflection on the Wedding Feast—reminding us of God’s all-embracing invitation and our call to clothe ourselves in Christ—was deeply uplifting.
Prayers for smooth travels on your diocesan journeys over the next two weeks.

  34. Dear Arnoldo, you’ve shared some more wonderful creative work! Thank you for including the Henry David Thoreau quote in your text—I hadn’t been able to read it on the card itself. It really resonates with me.
As for the monarch butterflies—I’ve heard that they’ve become so rare that hardly any of my American blogging friends have managed to spot one this year. For us Europeans, these butterflies are a rarity in any case. When we were in Canada in the autumn of 2025, I did manage to see ONE, and I was delighted by the sight. I hope you also offered a blessing for these rare monarch butterflies.
All the best from Austria 🤗

  36. I'm a great Fan of Thoreau too. For Exemplar
All nature is doing her best each moment to make us well—she exists for no other end. Do not resist her. With the least inclination to be well we should not be sick.

And I admire your portraits too. Thank you for sharing at MosaicMonday
