Keeping It Simple

Greetings!  My schedule continues to be very hectic, but at least it's been productive and fun.  This Thursday, I'll be taking my 5th Grade GT students to Mo Ranch, over in the Texas Hill Country.  Although we will be consistently on the go for 2 days, it will most likely be a marvelous experience and the beauty of the environment will makes it memorable for all.  My students and I are anxiously awaiting the day of our departure.

Try It On Tuesday - Springtime
Anyway, as to my collection of simple projects, I have the greeting card above, which was inspired by FMS 133 and the color yellow for SSSMC.  Since I also wanted to enter it to SSSWC and TIOT, I kept it clean, simple and spring like by making it airy and using the negative form of the flower die cut.  I used various scraps of paper, a scrap of linen, yellow staples,  and mini letter stamps, as well as the Tim Holtz picture wheel and Tattered Flower dies.

This next piece, is a logo I was commissioned to design for a Jewish group that is going on a pilgrimage to Israel this coming summer.  They will be imprinting it on their group's t-shirts, so they wanted it to be a black line design to keep production costs down.  Having Father Abraham in common, I'm sure they'll visit many of the same places that I would love to be see as a Christian.

Manon's Paper Saturdays
The two projects above involved some simple calligraphy work, which I always enjoy doing.  The first one was for some family recipe albums that my Mother-in-Law is working on and asked me to make the labels.  The second one is a quickie gift tag that my wife asked me to do on a short notice for a colleague of hers.  After punching a pacifier shape at the end, I used a calligraphic marker to write the baby's name and add border.  I think calligraphic work can be beautiful on its own.

Well, that brings me to the end of my post.  In closing, I'd like to leave you with a Bible verse found in 1 Timothy 2:1-3, that I believe is very apropos to my current post, "The first thing I want you to do is pray.  Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know.  Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation.  This is the way our Savior God wants us to live."  Thank you for all your thoughtful comments on my last post and blessings!

You are correct in saying that calligraphy is beautiful in itself. Your tag is wonderful. Love the extra touch of the pacifier.

Really like that first card! I'm a sucker for awesome cards, as my site might indicate. I really like the vs. in 1 Timothy. I used to do spot prayers for peeps when I was out and about. Sometimes it helps when I see so many grumps. I feel less vulnerable and more like I'm part of a solution and less of a victim. Odd...don't normally share ;) Have fun on the field trip!
