"R"

Howdy!  Yes, I am a Texan, and VERY Proud of it.  Since I was born in the Rio Grande Valley and reared in Mexico, the cowboy culture (cultura vaquera in Spanish) is in my blood.  Hence, today's card.  For day 13 of the CPS 5th Anniversary celebration, Lea Lawson and Clearsnap challenged their readers to design a card using sketch CPS #121.  When I saw the sketch this morning, the star immediately made me think of Texas, the "Lone Star" state.  A while back, I purchased the Stampabilities Old Boot stamp.  Although I love cowboy boots - have 3 pairs - I hadn't had an opportunity to use it.  Today's sketch seemed to be the perfect fit!

The background paper is from a sheet in the DCWV The Four Seasons stack which reminded me of a quilt.  To enhance the feeling, I drew a stitch line around the perimeter.  As you can see, I changed the order in which the focal point elements were layered.  In lieu of the horizontal strip, I looped a piece of twine to simulate a lasso, and attached a small faux leather tag sticker with the letter "R" for "Romero."  Next, I pasted the star, which I cut using my Fiskars ShapeTemplate cutting system.  I used Canson Mi-Tientes papercraft and trimmed it with Martha Stewart's brownstone glass microbeads.  Then, I made an accordion medallion with a strip of Martha Stewart's bandanna paper and the scoring board.  I pasted it to the star.  Finally, I stamped the cowboy boot with a brown Clearsnap Colorbox pad and colored it with Prismacolors and Marvy markers.  I cut the boot out, highlighted the spur with Glossy Accents, and pasted it on the medallion.

I hope you enjoy my card as much as I enjoyed making it.  It's encouraging to hear from my readers, so please follow me and leave a comment.  See y'all later!
